ROCKET YOGA?

What is Rocket Yoga?

Rocket Yoga gets you there faster - whatever your goal is.

Rocket Yoga was created in San Francisco by the late Larry Schultz. He was a disciple of Sri Pattabi Jois, the founder of Ashtanga Yoga. Schultz is known as 'The bad boy of Ashtanga'. His vision was to make Ashtanga Yoga more accessible to the western practitioners.

Rocket Yoga differs from its root, Ashtanga Yoga, in that students can modify and make their interpretation of the traditional asana. Instead of rigidly adhering to a sequence, they can skip a pose if they get stuck or find easier ways to practice instead. It is perhaps a less rigid and more flexible and creative way to approach  the Ashtanga method without ever losing sight of the traditional heritage and its roots.

Rocket Yoga provides a comprehensive system of Yoga routines that train the whole body in a holistic and dynamic way.

There are  3 set sequences in Rocket Yoga:

Rocket 1 based on Ashtanga primary series

Rocket 2  based on Ashtanga intermediate series

Rocket 3 combining Rocket 1 and 2 sequences

Although Rocket Yoga is structured in series, each class is not necessarily the same as the previous one. The practice can be traditional, following the set sequence or creative variations.

The structured sequence of Rocket Yoga cultivates strength, flexibility, and focus, while maintaining the evenness of breath, making the practice a moving meditation.

Rocket Yoga incorporates the same core principles of the ancient Ashtanga practice: observing the breath, incorporating energy locks, and focusing the gaze - commonly referred to as breath, bandhas, and drishti. Although Rocket Yoga makes use of the same postures as traditional Ashtanga Yoga, there are differences in how they are arranged and how quickly they are performed.

Rocket Yoga has a very fast tempo, so it works on the cardiovascular system and gives you a sense of stamina and endurance. It is non-stop movement from the beginning to the end.

Moving with awareness from your center helps to prevent injury, and allows for a more light, fluid movement.

''Each time I am practicing Rocket, I feel one step closer to my Inner Divine.''
